Ex-MP Exposes Coercion Tactics Ahead of Sep 22 Rally

Anil Bachoo, a former Member of Parliament, ex-minister and member of the Labour Party, has voiced concerns about alleged pressures and threats being employed to deter supporters of the Labour-MMM-PMSD alliance from attending the opposition’s rally in Flacq on September 22.

Bachoo expressed confidence in the turnout, particularly from constituencies 8, 9, and 10, noting the historic significance of these areas for their alliance.

However, he criticised attempts to intimidate voters and highlighted the unprecedented nature of such tactics.

He also insisted on the importance of allowing people to express themselves freely without coercion, stressing that suppressing voices could lead to unrest.

“The government will pay dearly if it continues to act this way. We must let people speak without pressure or persecution.”

The ex-MP also cited instances of police officers acting in a politically biased manner.
