5 Local Artists Feature With Jeff Koons at New Adamah, Caudan Arts Gallery
The world-renowned “Balloon Dog (Blue)” by American sculptor Jeff Koons has taken centre stage in Mauritius as Adamah Fine Arts launches its flagship gallery at the Caudan Arts Centre.
Marking a significant expansion for the network, the new 110-square-metre venue is now the largest of Adamah’s 11 locations.
The move represents a “strategic choice” to bring international contemporary art to a wider audience, transitioning from the group’s traditional base within five-star resorts like the Royal Palm and Anahita into a bustling urban “ecosystem.”
A Gateway for Local Talent
The gallery’s inauguration has catalysed a major shift for the Mauritian art scene. While the group previously represented only one local artist, Patrick Ricco, the portfolio has now expanded to include four additional Mauritian names: Gaël Froget, Kamila Hurnaum, Laëtitia Mc Veay, and Skizofan.
“Our vision aligns totally with what the Caudan wants to achieve,” said Nicolas Lazarre, Director General of Adamah Fine Arts.
“We want to contribute to the development of art and culture by creating bridges between different territories and sensibilities.”
Global Dialogue
A debut exhibition held from 14 to 27 March showcased over 100 works, blending Pop Art with abstract and urban styles. The event featured a dialogue between established international figures and local creators. Notable sales included works by French artists Kiko and Peppone, alongside pieces by Mauritian artists.
The gallery’s presence is already felt within the community; Mr Lazarre noted that the recent exhibition prompted some 40 artists from across Mauritius and the Indian Ocean to submit their portfolios.
“Young artists visited and said the exhibition inspired them to return to their craft. That touches me deeply,” he added.
Investment and Experience
Positioned to attract tourists, corporate professionals, and art students alike, the gallery plans to refresh its collections every two months. Prospective collectors can expect entry prices to start from MUR 40,000.
Looking ahead, Adamah Fine Arts intends to host monthly evening events for collectors and enthusiasts to complement the wider Caudan Arts Centre experience.
The expansion is supported by a partnership with Bel Air Fine Arts, a contemporary network with galleries in prestigious locations including Saint-Tropez, Venice, and Miami.
