4 Arrested in International Drug Sting Following Rs 75 Million Heroin Seizure
A high-stakes international narcotics operation has been dismantled following the seizure of heroin worth an estimated Rs 75 million at Plaisance Airport.
The multi-agency crackdown, involving the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) and the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU), led to the arrest of four suspects on Saturday, 14 March.
The Interception
The operation was triggered when authorities intercepted a British national in transit from South Africa.
Upon inspecting the individual’s luggage, officers discovered five kilograms of heroin concealed within the bags.
“Controlled Delivery”
In a strategic move to trap the intended recipients, Mauritian authorities initiated a “controlled delivery” operation.
The illicit drugs were replaced with a dummy package to track the shipment to its final destination in the Seychelles.
The sting proved successful, resulting in the apprehension of four Seychellois nationals allegedly linked to the trafficking network.
Active investigations remain underway in both Mauritius and the Seychelles to further map the extent of the criminal network.
