STC Secures Vital Fuel Shipment After Port Halt Forces Urgent Change
A vessel chartered by the State Trading Corporation (STC) is expected to arrive in Mauritius around 2 April, carrying a vital shipment of heavy fuel oil from Singapore to sustain the nation’s thermal power stations.
The arrival, confirmed by Central Electricity Board (CEB) director Shamshir Mukoon, marks a strategic pivot in the country’s energy logistics.
The cargo was originally scheduled for transit from the port of Fujairah, but operations at that location have been halted, forcing authorities to activate a contingency plan and reroute the supply from Singapore.
This move comes as the government accelerates efforts to secure the nation’s energy supply against the backdrop of persistent tensions in the Middle East.
In a further effort to bolster energy security, the CEB has launched a formal expression of interest for the ongoing supply of heavy fuel oil for electricity production.
The initiative aims to diversify fuel sources and mitigate the risk of supply disruptions.
Eligible local and international firms capable of delivering fuel for thermal power stations are invited to participate. Interested parties must submit their applications in sealed envelopes to the CEB by no later than 1 April.
Mr. Mukoon confirmed that the CEB is actively exploring the market to evaluate all available supply options as part of a wider strategy to ensure reliable power generation for the country.
