Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam has issued a firm stance on gender equality, declaring that women’s rights are “not negotiable” during an address marking International Women’s Day.

Speaking on Sunday at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex, the Prime Minister emphasised that women should be positioned at the heart of the nation’s development.

He asserted that national prosperity must be shared by all citizens as the country moves forward.

Inclusive Growth Amid Global Challenges

The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when Mauritius is navigating economic headwinds.

Mr Ramgoolam highlighted that the country is currently facing difficulties attributed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In light of these challenges, he stressed the urgent necessity for the nation to pursue “inclusive growth,” ensuring that development benefits every sector of society.
