Betrayed and Robbed: Dawood Rawat Demands Justice After 10 Years of Waiting
Former BAI Group Chairman Emeritus, Dawood Rawat, has declared that his legal battle is a quest for “justice” rather than financial gain, following appearance at the Supreme Court on Monday, 2 March.
Mr Rawat is pursuing a staggering Rs100 billion claim against the State, targeting several prominent political figures and various government entities.
The lawsuit follows the collapse of the BAI Group, an event that continues to resonate across the Mauritian legal and financial landscape.
A Quest for Redress
Speaking to journalists upon his departure from the Supreme Court, Mr Rawat struck a defiant tone regarding the motivations behind the Rs 100 Billion litigation.
“I am not looking for money. I am looking for justice,” Rawat stated.
“This country has robbed me, my family, and the workers.”
Impact on Stakeholders
Beyond his personal grievances, the former chairman highlighted the ongoing plight of former BAI clients who remain in financial limbo.
Mr Rawat questioned the timeline of the legal process, asking, “The customers are still waiting. How much longer will we wait?”
Dawood Rawat’s courtroom appearance marked a significant escalation in his long-running battle with the Mauritian authorities.
Nearly a decade has passed since the initial collapse of his business empire – BAI Group and following his return to the island in late 2024, Dawood Rawat is now demanding a final judicial reckoning for those who robbed his family.
