CEB Announces 3-Day Power Cuts Across Mauritius

Households and businesses across multiple regions are facing scheduled power outages starting today, as the Central Electricity Board (CEB) begins essential maintenance and grid reinforcement works.

The programmed interruptions, stretching from Friday 27 February to Sunday 1 March, will affect various localities at staggered intervals. According to the CEB, these works are critical for strengthening the national power infrastructure.

Friday: Coastal and Inland Disruptions

The maintenance schedule kicks off today with significant outages in the west and south-east:

  • Flic-en-Flac (08:30 – 15:30): Areas affected include Morcellement Bismic and several avenues, namely Cacatoès, Faucons, Cardinaux, Serins, Pic Pic, Aigles, Hérons, and Cocotiers.
  • Union Park (09:00 – 15:00): Residents in Morcellement SIT Union Park and Nouvelle France will be without power for six hours.

Saturday: Widespread Saturday Maintenance

The bulk of the reinforcement work is slated for 28 February, affecting several major hubs:

  • North & East: Grand Baie (Rue Geranium) will see cuts from 09:00 to 14:00, while Rivière-du-Rempart (Jagnath, Pave, and Joomun Roads) faces a longer window from 08:30 to 15:30.
  • Central & West: Village Malenga, La Laura, and Roselyn Cottage are scheduled for 08:30 to 15:30. In Petite-Rivière, areas around Camp Benoit Road and Black River Road will be affected from 09:00 to 14:00.
  • Port Louis & Suburbs: Tour Koenig (vicinity of Rue Concorde) will be hit from 09:00 to 14:00. In Tranquebar, a short morning outage is planned from 09:00 to 10:00.

Sunday: Weekend Completion

The final phase on 1 March focuses on northern tourist belts and residential centres:

  • Mont-Choisy (08:30 – 15:00): Major hotels including Casuarina, Coral Azur, and Mystic, alongside Morcellements Choisy and Romatally, are on the list.
  • Curepipe (08:30 – 15:30): A comprehensive list of over 20 streets, including Lees, Anderson, Willoughby, and Victor Hugo Streets, will experience nearly eight hours of downtime.
  • Other Areas: Arsenal (Route Royale) and Belle-Vue-Maurel (Rue Royale and Shivalah) are also scheduled for morning-to-afternoon cuts.

Tranquebar residents should note a second scheduled interruption on Sunday afternoon between 13:00 and 14:00.
