NCG Rescue Woman at Gris-Gris Beach after 14:41 PM Emergency Call

A foreign national was saved from drowning on Sunday, 22 February, after being swept away by heavy swells at Gris-Gris beach in the south of the island.

The woman was pulled from the water by the Souillac National Coast Guard (NCG) during a rapid four-minute intervention. Despite the ordeal, she was brought back to shore safe and sound.

Rapid Response

The alarm was raised at approximately 2:41 PM following reports of a woman struggling in the turbulent waters. An NCG rescue boat was dispatched immediately to the scene.

Coast guard officers spotted the victim being carried by waves at 2:45 PM. Just two minutes later, at 2:47 PM, she was successfully hauled aboard the rescue craft and moved to safety.

Medical Refusal

The tourist, who was reportedly in shock but remained conscious throughout, was transported to the NCG base in Souillac.

Although she was shaken by the incident, she refused medical assistance as she had sustained no apparent physical injuries.

The woman has been staying in Mauritius for several months and is scheduled to depart the country in mid-March.

Incident Recorded

At the time of the emergency, the victim was visiting the beach with two friends. Following the rescue, one of her companions arrived at the NCG base to escort her back to their accommodation.

Local police have made a formal entry regarding the incident, and the specific circumstances surrounding how the woman entered the water have been recorded.
