Female students have taken the lead in the 2025 Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations, with 22 girls named among the nation’s top scholars. The Queen Elizabeth College (QEC) has cemented its reputation for academic excellence, producing 11 of those female laureates—exactly half of the total awarded in the category.

The official results, released today, reveal a national pass rate of 78.98%. A total of 43 scholarships were awarded across Mauritius, with the division between the genders remaining nearly equal, featuring 21 male and 22 female recipients.

The Leading Institutions

While the girls’ category was dominated by the QEC, the competition among boys’ institutions was more closely contested.

The Royal College Port Louis and Royal College Curepipe each produced four male laureates, though they were notably overtaken by the Queen Elizabeth College, which secured five spots in the masculine category.

Top Performing Schools (Boys):

  • Queen Elizabeth College: 5 laureates
  • Royal College Port Louis: 4 laureates
  • Royal College Curepipe: 4 laureates
  • Droopnath Ramphul State College: 2 laureates

Top Performing Schools (Girls):

  • Queen Elizabeth College: 11 laureates
  • Dr Maurice Curé State College: 4 laureates

Other institutions celebrating single scholarship wins include Modern College, Collège du Saint Esprit, and Loreto College Quatre Bornes, showcasing a spread of talent across various state and private secondary schools.

Success in Rodrigues

The island of Rodrigues also celebrated significant achievements with the proclamation of four “Rodrigues Open Scholarships.”

Rodrigues College remains the island’s academic powerhouse with three laureates (two boys and one girl), while Ananias André Le Chou College produced one female laureate.
