Police Union Demands Urgent Recruitment Drive Amid Security Concerns
The Police Fighters Union has called on the government to launch an urgent recruitment drive to bolster national security following a string of recent incidents involving law enforcement officers.
Speaking at a press conference in Réduit on Wednesday, 28 January, Union Vice-President Ajeet Fokeer urged the nation’s youth to consider a career within the force to address the current personnel shortfall.
Strengthening the Ranks
The union’s appeal comes as a direct response to a perceived need for reinforced security measures across the country.
Mr Fokeer emphasised that increasing the number of active officers is essential for maintaining public safety in the wake of recent challenges faced by the police.
Pay and Allowances
Beyond the call for new boots on the ground, the Police Fighters Union is also lobbying for a formal review of police compensation.
The union has officially requested that the government re-examine the current scale of allowances granted to officers, suggesting that financial incentives are a necessary component of modernising the force.
“We are calling on young people to join the police force,” stated Mr Fokeer, highlighting the union’s dual focus on expansion and better conditions for those serving.
