Police Hunt Suspect After Bank Machine Rejects Counterfeit US Dollar Notes

Detectives have launched a formal investigation after a suspect attempted to exchange counterfeit US Dollars at a local bank branch on Tuesday afternoon, 20 January.

The incident occurred at approximately 14:25 when a customer approached the teller window seeking to exchange several American banknotes.

The transaction was immediately halted when the bank’s verification machinery flagged the currency as suspect and rejected the notes.

Detection of Serial Anomalies

Upon further inspection, bank staff identified blatant discrepancies with the currency. Most notably, several banknotes were found to bear identical serial numbers—a hallmark sign of professional counterfeiting.

The bank employee followed security protocols to conduct secondary checks, which confirmed the anomalies before the authorities were alerted.

Ongoing Investigation

The suspect managed to leave the premises before they could be detained. In response, bank officials immediately placed the fraudulent notes under seal to preserve them as evidence for the police.

Competent authorities have now taken over the case, opening a full-scale inquiry to:

  • Trace the origin and circulation path of the forged currency.
  • Identify the individual who presented the notes at the counter.

Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing as they review security measures and potential leads.
