Mauritius Stock Exchange Confirms New Chairman
The Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) has appointed industry veteran Tommy Lo as its new Chairman, effective 21 January 2026. The appointment comes as the SEM enters a significant period of leadership transition. Alongside Mr Lo’s arrival, the Board of Directors confirmed that the current Chief Executive, Sunil Benimadhu, has announced his intention to retire by July 2026.
A Wealth of Experience
Mr Lo brings over two decades of experience in the financial services sector to the role.
A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), he is the founder and director of Intercontinental Trust.
His extensive background in capital markets includes:
- Brokerage: Serving as Director of Capital Market Brokers Ltd, an authorised securities dealer.
- International Development: Playing a key role in the creation of 4 Africa Exchange, a South African licensed exchange regulated by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), where he currently serves as a director.
Succession and Continuity
With Mr Benimadhu’s upcoming retirement, the SEM Board has initiated a structured, merit-based selection process to identify a successor.
This recruitment drive will be conducted in accordance with international best practices.
The Board issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to maintaining operational stability and integrity during this transition.
Strategic initiatives and market development programmes are set to continue without interruption to ensure the ongoing confidence of all stakeholders.
