Residents in Western Mauritius are set for a significant improvement in water supply as the Central Water Authority (CWA) prepares to inject an additional 2,000 cubic metres of water into the national grid daily.

The project, scheduled for completion by mid-February, follows a site visit on Tuesday, 20 January, by Patrick Assirvaden, the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities.

The Minister travelled to Bambous to evaluate two strategic boreholes identified to bolster the region’s existing infrastructure.

Strategic Infrastructure

The additional capacity will be sourced from two specific boreholes located at:

  • Gamma Civic
  • United Basalt Products

Together, these sites have the potential to produce up to 2,000 cubic metres of water every 24 hours.

The CWA is now moving forward with the technical works required to connect these sources directly to the national distribution network.

Regional Impact

The primary objective of the injection is to stabilise and enhance the water supply for several key residential areas. The regions expected to see immediate benefits include:

  • Bambous
  • Eau Bonne
  • Cité La Ferme
  • La Valette

Beyond local improvements, the move is designed to provide critical relief to the Beaux-Songes reservoir, which currently bears much of the distribution load for the district.
