Frustrated residents in Eau-Coulée have resorted to filling “gaping holes” in the road with cement, as one-third of Curepipe’s road network has reportedly fallen into a state of severe disrepair.

The DIY repairs come amid growing public anger over government “immobilism” regarding the deteriorating infrastructure in the “City of Light.”

Residents claim the current state of the streets poses a significant danger to all road users.

“Minefields” in the City

The situation has reached what locals describe as alarming proportions, with approximately 33% of the city’s roads now resembling “minefields.”

The degradation is so advanced in certain areas that the term “potholes” no longer suffices to describe the damage.

Dangerous Driving Conditions

In the Floréal district, motorists have reported hazardous conditions that threaten vehicle control. Drivers are being warned to:

  • Maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel.
  • Slow down significantly at specific intervals to avoid accidents.

A Plea for Authority Intervention

While residents have taken these unconventional steps to signal the dangers and improve immediate safety, they continue to alert authorities to the crisis.

Community members are calling for a “special importance” to be placed on the state of the streets to ensure the long-term safety of the public.

The move to use cement in Eau-Coulée is being seen as a desperate attempt to grab the attention of officials who have, thus far, failed to address the crumbling infrastructure.
