U.S. Woman Arrested as Rs 22.4 Million of Cannabis Seized at Plaisance Airport
A 33-year-old American national has been detained at Plaisance Airport following the discovery of cannabis with an estimated street value of Rs 22.4 million.
The seizure, which took place on Wednesday, 31 December, involved 18 kilograms of the illicit drug.
The suspect was intercepted by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) in a joint operation with the Airport Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU).
The Discovery
During a routine search of the passenger’s luggage, officers uncovered the drugs concealed within several packages.
The American woman was immediately arrested and placed in custody on charges related to drug importation.
Controlled Delivery and Further Arrests
Following the initial arrest, the ADSU launched a “controlled delivery” operation to identify the intended recipients of the cargo.
This tactical move proved successful later in the week, leading to the apprehension of two Mauritian nationals who had arrived to collect the packages.
