New Temporary Circuit at Anjalay Stadium to Stop Illegal Street Racing
A temporary motor racing circuit is to be established at the Anjalay Coopen Stadium car park to provide a safe haven for motorsport enthusiasts. The project, which involves re-asphalting the existing car park surface, serves as a transitional solution for the racing community.
It is intended to bridge the gap until the completion of a permanent, large-scale international circuit previously announced in the 2025–2026 Budget.
A Drive for Public Safety
The initiative was discussed yesterday during a high-level meeting between the Minister of Transport, Osman Mohamed, and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Deven Nagalingum.
Government officials hope the dedicated site will achieve two primary social objectives:
- Curbing illegal street racing across the island.
- Reducing road accidents by providing a regulated environment for high-speed activities.
Investing in the Future
By offering a secured space for mechanical sports, the government aims to engage the youth in a controlled setting.
The project marks a significant step in the state’s roadmap toward formalising the sport, ensuring that “Rallye” culture can thrive without compromising public safety.
