A 31-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly stealing his sister’s car from outside their mother’s home, only to be intercepted by officers later that same day. The white Suzuki, valued at approximately Rs 540,000, was reported missing in the early hours of Monday, 5 January.

Following a rapid coordinated response by multiple police units, the vehicle was located in Roche-Bois with the suspect still sitting behind the wheel.

The Theft and Recovery

The complainant, a 35-year-old woman from D’Epinay, told authorities she had parked and locked the vehicle in Vacoas between midnight and 5:00 am.

Suspicion immediately fell upon her brother, who was known to possess a duplicate key.

Acting on “reliable intelligence,” a joint operation was launched involving:

  • DCIU Central Division
  • DCIU Metro North
  • Roche-Bois Police

The suspect, a resident of Vacoas, was apprehended at the scene. Police confirmed he has since admitted to the facts and has been transferred to the Vacoas CID for further investigation.

Discovery of Valuables

Upon searching the recovered Suzuki, officers discovered a significant haul of jewellery. The items seized include:

  • Nine yellow bracelets and one additional bracelet found in the glove box.
  • Three rings.
  • Four chains with attached pendants.

The suspect informed officers that the jewellery belonged to his sister and was being kept inside the vehicle.
