RODRIGUES – A significant earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude struck off the coast of Rodrigues this Tuesday sparking close monitoring by regional authorities.
The tremor occurred at 14:09 on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, approximately 77 km northeast of the island.
According to a formal statement released by the Mauritius Meteorological Station at 14:30, the seismic activity was located at coordinates 19.2° S and 63.9° E.

Preliminary data indicates that the quake originated at a depth of roughly 10 km.
