5 Regions Endure Heavy Downpours as 81mm Rain Floods Le Morne

MAURITIUS remains under a heavy rain warning until 10:00 am today, Wednesday 31 December, following a period of significant precipitation across the island.

The warning follows 24 hours of inclement weather, with meteorologists recording the highest rainfall levels between 4:00 am on Tuesday and 4:00 am this morning.

Regional Breakdown

Le Morne has emerged as the most affected area, recording a substantial 81.3 mm of rain.

Other regions in the south and centre of the island also saw significant activity, with Mare-aux-Vacoas recording 53.3 mm and Vacoas following closely at 51.6 mm.

While “Mother Nature” has been far from lenient over the past day, the current warning is set to expire at 10:00 am.

Residents in the hardest-hit areas, particularly in the Black River district and the central plateau, have been the most exposed to the downpours.
