10,000 Police Officers Deployed in Nationwide Security Crackdown
A massive security operation is underway across the island as nearly 10,000 police officers have been mobilised to ensure public safety during the peak festive season. The surge in police presence, which officially commenced on Saturday, 20 December, sees the force operating on a “high vigilance” footing.
To maximise boots on the ground, all leave for officers has been suspended as authorities move to secure urban hubs and coastal resorts.
Round-the-Clock Surveillance
The Central Barracks has confirmed that the 10,000-strong force is working on a rotational basis to provide 24-hour coverage across the entire territory.
This strategic deployment is designed to manage the significant increase in commercial activity and the surge in public movement typical of this period.
Focus on Hotspots
The beefed-up security measures include:
- Increased Patrols: Enhanced police visibility in high-traffic areas.
- Strategic Coverage: Targeted monitoring of busy town centres and popular beach zones.
- Constant Readiness: A 24/7 presence to respond to the “massive influx” of people.
A Strict Festive Environment
While the festive atmosphere is palpable across the island, it is being met with a strictly regulated security framework.
The objective of the operation, according to officials, is to guarantee citizen safety amidst the holiday “effervescence.”
The intensified presence is expected to remain in force throughout the busy period to address the unique challenges posed by the year-end celebrations.
