17-Year-Old Mauritian Teen Dies After Tragic Jet Ski Accident in Dubai
The process to repatriate the remains of Mauritian student Saniah Hobass, who tragically died in a jet-ski accident in Jumeirah on Monday, December 8, is now underway, as confirmed by Foreign Affairs Minister Ritish Ramphul.
Student Died on 17th Birthday
The most newsworthy element of the tragedy is the initiation of repatriation procedures for the 17-year-old. The student was killed on the very day of her 17th birthday in the incident.
Minister Ramphul confirmed to RadioPlus this Tuesday afternoon (9th December) that the necessary steps have been lodged with authorities in Dubai.
Cousin Injured in Same Incident
- Saniah’s cousin, who was also jet-skiing, sustained a foot injury and required surgery.
- Her current medical condition is reported as stable.

The Mauritian government has offered support to the bereaved family. Minister Ramphul stated: “Everything is being done to support and assist the family, who have travelled to the Emirates.”
