FCC Fights Corruption: Key Youth Forums Leads National Anti-Crime Push
The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) has launched a week-long series of national awareness campaigns and actions across Mauritius and Rodrigues to coincide with the International Anti-Corruption Day on Tuesday, December 9.
Key Initiatives and Goals
Operating under the slogan “Koripsion? Non, mersi!” (Corruption? No, thank you!), the FCC’s primary objective is to encourage all Mauritian citizens to protect the financial integrity of the island nation. The campaign seeks to:
- Promote a culture of good governance.
- Strengthen transparency.
- Combat financial crime.
The initiative includes workshops, forums, and field actions across both the national level and in Rodrigues. The FCC is calling on citizens, youth, and both public and private institutions to join the national mobilisation, stressing that “The fight against corruption can only be effective if we move forward united, responsible and committed.”
FCC Leadership Statement
Sanjay Dawoodarry, Acting Director General of the FCC, highlighted the broader vision of the campaign:
“Our commitment goes beyond the fight against financial crime: it embodies a vision, that of a country where transparency guides every decision, where responsibility is shared at all levels, and where justice becomes the bedrock of public action. By strengthening this dynamic, we also reinforce trust, social cohesion, and the capacity of Mauritius to face the challenges of today and tomorrow. It is together, with rigour, integrity and determination, that we will make our Nation a model of security, equity and resilience.”
Campaign Programme Highlights
The awareness week features several key events:
- Tuesday, December 9: A national workshop titled “Fighting Corruption and other Financial Crimes, Advancing Social Justice,” featuring Professor Thuli Madonsela, a major figure in South African public integrity who previously served as Public Protector (Médiatrice de la République) and actively campaigns against corruption and poor governance.
- Wednesday, December 10: A Youth Forum on the theme “Shaping the Next Chapter in Anti-Corruption Efforts: Engaging the Youth in the Fight Against Corruption and other Financial Crimes.”
