Leptospirosis Case Confirmed in 58-Yr-Old Patient Transferred from Rodrigues
Woman transferred to Mauritius from Rodrigues for hepatic (liver) problems has tested positive for leptospirosis, a serious bacterial disease, it was confirmed on Monday, November 24.
Key Details and Condition
The diagnosis, confirmed last Thursday, was announced by Dr. Ashwamedsing Dinassing, Acting Director-General of Health Services, speaking on RadioPlus.
He reported that the patient’s condition is currently stable. The disease, which is transmitted through rat urine, was initially detected while the patient was still in Rodrigues.
Public Health Response
In response to the case, health authorities have initiated environmental checks in Rodrigues to control the risk of the disease spreading. Furthermore, close contacts of the patient are also being closely monitored.
Health officials stressed that precautions remain necessary to limit transmission.
