A peaceful holiday for two women from Réunion has turned into a nightmare after they were left completely paralysed in the legs following a severe zip-line accident on the island. The pair have been stranded since the grave incident on November 4th, suffering significant injuries that mean they are now entirely dependent on hospital care.

Urgent Medical Evacuation Demand

The accident occurred while the women were participating in a popular tourist zip-line session. According to witnesses, a brutal fall resulted in severe trauma to their lower limbs.

They were quickly attended to by local emergency services and transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Crève-Cœur.

A close friend, speaking to the Réunion media outlet Free Dom, revealed the women’s distressing daily reality:

“Their legs are not moving. They are completely bedridden. They can no longer bear the situation, they cry all the time. They are demoralised, beyond the physical pain.”

  • The friend stressed that the women must be repatriated as quickly as possible to receive appropriate care, describing the delay as “insufferable.”
  • Concerns have been raised that both the insurance company and local authorities are slow to approve the medical evacuation, despite the seriousness of the situation.
  • “Every day that passes is a hell for them,” confessed a friend.

Official Police Update and Safety Probe

The Mauritius Police Press Office confirmed the women were admitted to hospital on November 4th. While their state of health is “not judged critical,” they have lost all mobility in their legs and require specialised attention.

Police specified that the victims had selected a direct flight to Réunion, scheduled for this Thursday, and their insurance will cover the cost of repatriation and necessary rehabilitation care.

The incident has immediately raised questions about the safety of tourist activities in Rodrigues.

The zip-line organisers now face concerns over their adherence to safety standards and accident prevention.

Local authorities confirmed that an inquiry is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

Friends and family are focused on securing their swift and safe return home, where they can receive essential care and psychological support for their rehabilitation.
