Thursday, 30th October, Residents of Laventure took to the streets in a desperate demonstration against weeks of water scarcity, blocking the Route Royale near Gandhi Bhawan to voice their fury.

The protest, which saw police deployed to the scene, comes after three weeks of severe disruption to the water supply, a situation residents describe as “unbearable.”

In the district of Chemin Shivala, the lack of water has reached a critical point.

Anger boiled over following a four-day gap in relief efforts, with a single tanker delivery yesterday failing to mollify exasperated locals.

A key source of the residents’ frustration is the timing of the water tanker service. Tankers are reportedly passing through during the day, when the majority of people are at work, meaning many are unable to fill their essential water tanks.

The protesting population is now waiting for an official response to their ongoing distress.
