Synthetic Drug Crackdown Nets Nearly 1,000 Arrests in 9 Months
Mauritius Police have made a staggering 974 arrests linked to synthetic drugs between January and October 23, 2025, according to new figures highlighting a significant crackdown on the illicit substance.
The vast majority of those apprehended were adults facing charges related to drug consumption and dealing.
Consumption and Rehabilitation
Of the total suspects, 446 adults were arrested specifically for the consumption of synthetic drugs.
A significant portion of this group, 232 individuals, have already been provisionally charged and brought before a court of justice.
In a move towards addressing addiction, 119 suspects have chosen to enrol in a rehabilitation programme managed by the Drug Users Administrative Panel under the Ministry of Health.
However, 95 suspects have not yet faced provisional charges as of the reporting date.
Drug Dealing and Trafficking
The police operation also targeted the supply chain, with 497 suspects provisionally charged for drug dealing.
Furthermore, 22 adults have been provisionally charged with the more serious offence of drug trafficking.
Alarmingly, nine minors were also arrested for drug dealing, although they have not yet been provisionally charged.
