Riou Ocean Glass Launches 2 New High-Tech Products to Redefine Architecture
Mer-Rouge, Mauritius – Riou Ocean Glass has introduced two innovative glass solutions to the local market, aimed at meeting the rising demands of the building, architecture, and contemporary design sectors. The products – digitally printed silkscreen glass and switchable privacy glass – were launched one year after the group inaugurated its production site in Mer-Rouge.
The debut of the new offerings significantly broadens the company’s regional portfolio. The Mer-Rouge factory, which boasts technology unique to the region, showcased the innovations during a site visit on October 16th.
The event drew considerable interest from professionals in the construction, architecture, and design fields and was attended by Pierre Riou, CEO of the group and founder of Riou Glass.
Customisation and Efficiency
The digitally printed silkscreen glass allows for near-limitless personalisation of glass surfaces. Architects and designers can now create unique façades and interiors using various motifs, logos, textures, and translucent or opaque effects.
This technology merges aesthetics with performance, providing improved mechanical resistance and durability, and adhering to strict safety and energy efficiency standards.
The second product, switchable privacy glass, marks a significant technological step forward. Utilising a liquid crystal film layer, the glass’s transparency can be modulated instantly via a simple switch or click.
This feature is ideal for spaces requiring light management and confidentiality and aligns with the trend towards smart and connected buildings.
When installed in offices, hotels, or hospitals, it can also slash artificial lighting use by up to 70%, by optimising natural light management, thereby reducing electricity consumption.
Regional Hub for High-End Glass
Pierre Riou described the innovations as a key step in the company’s continuous innovation strategy.
“These new glass solutions are not simple aesthetic evolutions. They redefine the way architects, designers, and decorators can imagine, modulate, and animate spaces. Mauritius thus becomes an essential regional hub for high-end glass,” he stated.
Beyond technology, Riou Ocean Glass focuses on sustainable development and creativity. The new products embody this strategy: the printed glass enhances energy performance and material resistance, while the switchable privacy glass provides an elegant, efficient solution for managing light and privacy while reducing environmental impact.
The Mer-Rouge factory produces a wide array of products, including float, tempered, laminated, insulating, and decorative glass.
This mastery over the entire production chain enables Riou Ocean to offer bespoke, durable, and innovative solutions tailored to the construction sector’s challenges across the Indian Ocean zone, Africa, Australia, and the French overseas departments and territories (DOM-TOM).
