MT’s AI Education Pilot to Expand in Schools After Cabinet Backing
The ‘mytGPT Educational Platform‘ pilot, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered initiative designed to assist students, teachers, and parents, is set to be tested in schools following the Council of Ministers’ approval on Friday, October 17.
The project, a close collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Mauritius Telecom, is aiming to establish a more personalised, accessible, and robust educational framework. It will allow learners and educators to access high-quality resources anytime and anywhere.
National Strategy and Global Context
The AI platform aligns with the broader national strategy to use AI as a transformative tool to increase efficiency, productivity, and innovation across all economic sectors.
Globally, the integration of AI in education is advancing rapidly, offering significant benefits for improving learning outcomes, facilitating the personalisation of learning experiences, and boosting student engagement.
The mytGPT Educational Platform is specifically designed to address current educational challenges and create an inclusive, innovative learning environment suitable for the 21st century.
Platform’s Initial Success
The innovative pilot was initially launched by Mauritius Telecom in June at Maréchal College in Rodrigues.
The platform, conceived by the Mauritius Telecom Innovation team, functions as an AI-based teaching assistant.
It helps teachers with lesson preparation and monitoring student progress, while simultaneously offering customised support to students.
- Pilot Details: The initial pilot, which ran from August 1st until October, involved 70 Grade 12 students and covered three subjects: Mathematics, Accounting, and Physics.
- Training: The initiative also included training teachers in digital tools and familiarising students with the platform through workshops and sessions.
Veemal Gungadin, the Chief Executive Officer of Mauritius Telecom, presented the initiative on June 17, with Deputy Chief Commissioner Johnson Roussety in attendance.
Mr Gungadin stated the project reflects a transformation of education through technology, noting that it aligns with the school curriculum and acts as a personal tutor accompanying students at their own pace.
