22-Year-Old Dies in Fort Victoria Drowning
The victim, named as Joey Alison Christ, tragically drowned on Sunday, 19 October, at Fort Victoria. His body was recovered by the National Coast Guard, who were assisted by emergency services following the incident.
The victim was reportedly fishing with a teenager when their line became snagged near the shore.
Mr. Christ is believed to have entered the water to free the line, where he ran into difficulty before disappearing beneath the surface.
Following the recovery, the body was transported to the mortuary at Dr A.G. Jeetoo hospital on the order of the police medical examiner.
An investigation has been launched by Bain-des-Dames Police to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the drowning.
The victim’s mother, said to be deeply distraught, has given an interview to TéléPlus following the tragedy.
The Police Press Office, through its head Suhail Lidialam, has provided an official statement regarding the intervention of the National Coast Guard, addressing allegations that their response was too slow.
