Trader Loses Rs 80,000 in 'Fake Air Ticket' Scam

A 64-year-old trader from Plaine Verte has lost Rs 80,000 after allegedly being conned in a fake air ticket scam involving deeply discounted flights to China.

The victim, who runs a business in the area, became suspicious after the alleged seller vanished following the cash transaction, failing to answer calls or be found at the address provided.

According to information gathered by police, the trader was introduced to the suspect in May by a long-time acquaintance, also a trader in the capital, who had recommended the individual offering preferential rates.

The pensioner was lured by the offer of a ticket to China for Rs 30,000, significantly below the usual price of Rs 65,000.

He was also offered the option of an upgrade to business class for an additional Rs 10,000.

Convinced by the deal, the victim agreed to purchase two business class tickets, handing over a total of Rs 80,000 in cash to the intermediary.

Upon realising he had been defrauded, the victim filed a complaint at Plaine Verte police station.

His employee, who witnessed the money being handed over, has also been interviewed by investigators. Police are currently searching for the suspect.
