Mauritian Passport Ranks 29th, Unlocks 148 Visa-Free Destinations
Mauritius has secured the 29th position globally in the prestigious Henley Passport Index 2025, a significant benchmark of passport strength. Mauritian citizens can now access 148 destinations worldwide without needing a visa.
Global Standing and Visa Access
The index, a world reference updated on Tuesday, October 14, measures passport power based on the number of destinations accessible without a visa.
While Mauritians enjoy visa-free access to 148 countries, a visa is still required for 78 nations.
The ranking confirmed Mauritius’s strong standing in international travel freedom. A passport is deemed “stronger” the easier it allows entry into a large number of countries.
Shifting Global Hierarchy
The 2025 index reveals a shake-up in the global hierarchy, marking a noteworthy shift after two decades.
For the first time in twenty years, the American passport has dropped out of the top 10.
Asian nations now dominate the top ranks of the global leaderboard:
- Singapore leads the pack, offering visa-free access to 193 destinations.
- South Korea follows closely in second place with 190 destinations.
- Japan rounds out the top three, with its citizens able to access 189 destinations without a visa.
