Emtel Announces New CEO: Marcelo Aleman Takes Over in 2026
Emtel Limited has announced the appointment of Marcelo Aleman as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective from March 2026.The major leadership change sees Aleman succeed Kresh Goomany, who will retire from his executive role after more than a decade at the helm of the operator. Goomany will, however, remain involved with the company as a board member and a consultant.
New Leadership and Strategic Continuity
The appointment, according to the company, marks a new chapter for Emtel, yet is intended to maintain continuity with its existing strategy focused on innovation and sustainable growth.
Emtel Chairman Bashir A. Currimjee welcomed the incoming CEO, describing Aleman as a “passionate, agile, and visionary” leader.
Aleman brings a strong track record in the telecommunications, technology, digital, and fintech sectors.
His career includes leading complex projects across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, which have contributed to international expansion, revenue growth, and the implementation of innovative solutions. He is known as an agile strategist capable of building high-performing organisations.
Goomany’s Decade of Transformation
The outgoing CEO, Kresh Goomany, has been central to Emtel’s transformation over his ten-plus years in charge.
His tenure was distinguished by several key achievements:
- The company’s stock market listing in May 2024.
- Its inclusion in the SEM-10 index in early 2025.
- Accreditation to the SEMSI, the Stock Exchange of Mauritius’s sustainability index.
- Commitment to the deployment of 5G.
- The launch of the first OneWeb satellite station in the Indian Ocean.
