New Blue Economy Law Proposed to Shield Marine Riches
A new law on the Blue Economy is currently being prepared to regulate, protect, and sustainably enhance the Mauritius’ marine resources, the Minister of Blue Economy and Fisheries, Arvin Boolell, announced this 7th October.
Ministerial Announcement
The Minister made the announcement during an official workshop. This event is part of a series of ten pre-consultative meetings being held in the run-up to the forthcoming Ocean Summit (Assises de l’Océan).
Policy and International Support
Minister Boolell clarified that the legislation’s primary purpose is to frame, safeguard, and sustainably value the country’s marine wealth.
In a related development, the Minister also disclosed that his ministry is advancing an ambitious roadmap.
This strategy has been developed with the support of both the European Union and the World Bank.
