Mauritius Post Embraces Digital Future as World Post Day Celebrations Begin
Mauritius Post Ltd (MPL) is marking World Post Day with a series of nationwide events from October 9 to 30, 2025, focusing on its rich 253-year heritage and its push towards digitalisation and modernisation.
The extensive celebration schedule, spanning over three weeks across the island, follows a press conference held on Monday, 6 October, at the MPL headquarters.
The event featured Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Avinash Ramtohul, newly appointed Chairperson of the Board, Lovena Sowkhee, and Director-General, Anil Seeruttun.
Digital Transformation and Logistics Focus
Minister Ramtohul underscored the necessity for the institution, which he noted has served the population since its founding in 1772—evolving from a simple mail service between Mahébourg and Port-Louis to a network covering every corner of the country—to adapt to new technologies and the demands of e-commerce. He views this evolution as an opportunity to strengthen the nation’s logistics services.
New Leadership and Performance Goals
Chairperson Sowkhee reaffirmed MPL’s commitment to increased modernisation and efficiency, highlighting the development and valuing of personnel as a key element.
Director-General Seeruttun outlined specific projects aimed at improving MPL’s performance, emphasising digitalisation, local partnerships, and customer-oriented services.
He confirmed that concrete measures are already in place to strengthen distribution and accelerate postal delivery times.
Celebrating History and Opening New Facilities
As part of the festivities, the Mapou post office will be inaugurated on October 9.
A commemorative stamp will also be issued on this day to celebrate Mauritius’s participation in Expo 2025.
The Postal Museum will offer free entry from October 9 to 11, inviting the public to discover the history of the Mauritian post.
Additionally, several post offices will host open days, featuring school visits and presentations on MPL services.
An exhibition of international and Universal Postal Union stamps is scheduled to run from October 10 to 30 at the Mauritius Post Ltd headquarters.
