Dr. Kaviraj Sukon, the Mauritian Minister of Tertiary Education, has been named a “Fellow of the Commonwealth of Learning” in recognition of his extensive dedication to education and research. The prestigious award was presented to Dr. Sukon during the 11th Pan-Commonwealth Forum, which took place in Botswana from September 10th to 12th.

The Commonwealth bestowed the honour upon him in tribute to his three decades of commitment to the field.

Dr. Sukon’s career highlights include his tenure as the first Director-General of the Open University of Mauritius. In this role, he championed the vital importance of open education and lifelong learning.

The forum was also the scene of another significant development for the island nation: the official launch of the National Open Educational Resources Repository for Mauritius.

This national platform for open educational resources firmly establishes Mauritius as one of the Commonwealth’s leaders in the areas of innovation and access to open education.
