Low-Carbon Cement Launches in Mauritius, Priced at Rs 6 Premium
Cement manufacturer Kolos has introduced a new low-carbon cement to the Mauritian market, which will carry a slight premium, costing approximately Rs 6 extra per bag compared to traditional cement. The innovative product, unveiled on Wednesday, 1st October, at the company’s Mer Rouge facilities, is designed to reduce emissions by more than 30%.
The launch was hailed as a significant development for the construction sector and a first for the market by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Ajay Gunness.
Industry Contribution to Climate Action
Minister Gunness endorsed the initiative, stating it “illustrates concretely the contribution of the industry to the protection of the environment, the fight against climate change, and the promotion of sustainable development.”
He also encouraged the public to choose the new cement, which is set to be available from 2nd October.
Performance and Sustainability
Vishen Gopalla, Chief Executive Officer of Kolos Cement Ltd, confirmed the pricing difference and stressed the company’s commitment to sustainability.
“Kolos has always been part of a sustainable development approach,” the CEO said. He added that the new cement is “more efficient, more durable, and more responsible, while allowing a significant reduction in emissions.”
