Mauritius has officially launched the African Asia Pacific Choir Games & Grand Prix of Nations Mauritius 2025, a major international cultural event bringing together choirs from across the world. The grand celebration of music and unity began on Saturday, 27 September 2025, with the Opening Ceremony held at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex.

Competition and Cultural Showcase

The event runs until 5 October 2025 and is being described as both a competition and a festival of cultures, dedicated to showcasing the “harmony of nations” through a colourful program presented by both local and international talents. The core aim, as stated by Honourable Darmarajen NAGALINGUM, Minister of Youth and Sports, is to “leverage the universal language of music to create an enduring legacy of harmony and cooperation for the world.”

The Minister stressed that the country is not “merely hosting games,” but using the event as a grand cultural platform.

Organisational Partnership and Praise

The prestigious festival is the result of a partnership between INTERKULTUR, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Mauritius, and the Local Organizing Committee for the International Choir Competitions 2025 (LOCICC 2025).

Günter Titsch, President of INTERKULTUR and the World Choir Council, remarked on the choice of location: “For the first time, this prestigious INTERKULTUR Festival is taking place on Mauritius, the Tropical jewel of the Indian Ocean.” He highlighted the importance of the event’s motto, “Singing together brings nations together,” calling it a “strong, socially unifying message in challenging times” as choirs from Africa and the Asia Pacific region gather.

Mr. Giandev Moteea, OSK, Chairperson of LOCICC 2025, thanked INTERKULTUR for their trust and guidance: “Though we met with challenges, their partnership and guidance steered us back on course in a realistic way.”

Sponsors Lauded for Support

The organisers extended thanks to several key sponsors whose “invaluable support has been instrumental in making this festival of cultures a reality.” These included:

  • Olympia Sports
  • Quality Beverages Ltd
  • Planet Pharma
  • Mauritius Telecom
  • SBM
  • McDonald’s Mauritius
