Rs 19M Heroin Haul: Finn Caught With 6 Packages at SSR Airport
A Finnish national was intercepted at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (SSR) with a significant quantity of heroin valued at approximately Rs 19 million on Thursday, 25 September.
Drug Discovery and Seizure
The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) seized the substantial drug consignment during a routine operation.
Customs officers made the discovery in the luggage of the Finnish passenger. A total of 1.279 kilograms of heroin was found, carefully concealed in six separate packages.
The passenger was intercepted by officers from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) while attempting to pass through the airport’s Green Channel.
A routine scanner control, followed by an in-depth inspection of his bags, led to the discovery of the illicit substance. A sniffer dog was also used to confirm the presence of the drugs.
A subsequent body search of the individual, however, did not reveal any further contraband.
Ongoing Investigation
The case has been handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU), which promptly initiated a controlled delivery operation.
At this time, no further arrests have been made, and the police investigation is ongoing.
