New Saudi Ambassador Appointed: Key Mission of Riad Hullemuth
Mauritius has appointed Riad Hullemuth, a former teacher and headmaster, as its new ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Mr Hullemuth, who previously served as acting headmaster at St-Helena College, will now represent the island nation in the key Middle Eastern state.
The appointment sees a former educator with a diverse background taking on a significant diplomatic role.
Mr Hullemuth began his teaching career at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute and the SSS in Flacq.
He is credited with introducing Islamic Studies at St-Helena College, where he also served as acting headmaster.
Academically, Mr Hullemuth holds a Master’s degree from Saudi Arabia, an MBA, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, which he completed in November 2024.
He also has a history of social and political engagement, having chaired the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) at Doha College and written sports articles for Le Mauricien between 1994 and 2003, during his studies in Egypt.
Known for his community involvement, Mr Hullemuth has led initiatives focused on youth, including through football and supporting underprivileged children.
Politically, he was a member of the Mouvement militant mauricien (MMM) before joining the Labour Party in 2019.
He was also actively involved in the election campaign for the Alliance du Changement in the Rivière-des-Anguilles–Souillac (No. 13) constituency.
His new role as ambassador will involve defending Mauritius’s interests in Saudi Arabia, both diplomatically and economically.
