Bank of Mauritius Appoints 1st Woman Governor

Dr Priscilla Muthoora Thakoor, a seasoned economist, has been appointed as the new governor of the Bank of Mauritius.

The appointment comes after a distinguished career that began at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which she joined in 2009.

Prior to her new role, Dr Muthoora Thakoor served as the Resident Advisor at the Africa Training Institute since January 2023.

In this position, she specialized in macroeconomic and financial policies.

Dr Muthoora Thakoor’s academic background includes an MSc in Economics for Development and a doctorate in economics from Oxford University.

Her recent research has focused on the economics of inclusive growth and inequality.
