Singh’s Rs 200 Million Lawsuit: FIU Lawyers Quit
Lawyers for the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) have quit their representation in a Rs 200 million compensation claim filed by former Mauritius Telecom (MT) CEO, Sherry Singh, and his wife, Varsha.
The move came after the FIU’s lead counsel, Ravin Chetty, Senior Counsel, informed the Supreme Court he no longer had instructions or a case file.
His son, Khavi Chetty, and attorney Nutanesh Ramasawmy also withdrew.
The court accepted the motion and adjourned the case until October 7, 2025, to allow the FIU and its director time to appoint new legal representation.
The Lawsuit
Sherry Singh and Varsha Singh are each seeking Rs 100 million from the FIU, its director, and the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Financial Services and Good Governance.
The couple, both company directors, claim they suffered losses due to the FIU’s actions, including freezing their assets.
The lawsuit was filed under Section 60 of the Asset Recovery Act.
The Singhs are represented by Urmila Boolell, Senior Counsel, Faarzaad Soreefan and Gunness Ramdewar, Senior Attorney.
