Weather: 2°C Below Average, Anticyclone Brings Cold Snap & Rough Seas

Mauritius faces strong winds and chilly weather. A strong anticyclone is bringing windy and unusually cool weather to Mauritius, with a public warning in effect for gusts reaching up to 70 km/h. The national meteorological station in Vacoas issued the forecast this morning at 4:30 a.m. local time.

The Met Office has advised the public to exercise extreme caution on roads due to strong crosswinds and when performing tasks at height.

While no official heavy swell warnings are currently in place, rough seas with waves of up to 3.5 metres persist.

Mariners are advised to avoid venturing into the open sea, as well as the lagoons in the east, west, and south of the island.

Temperatures across the island will be about 2°C below average. Coastal regions can expect maximum temperatures between 23°C and 26°C, with lows of 17°C to 19°C.

On the central plateau, highs will range from 19°C to 21°C and nighttime lows will drop to between 12°C and 15°C.

Winds will blow from the southeast at 25 to 35 km/h, with powerful gusts. Although weak showers occurred in the early morning, the day is expected to be mostly sunny.

The night will also remain clear, with occasional showers over the highlands.

A seasonal event is also taking place today: the equinox, which occurs at 10:19 p.m. local time, meaning the length of day and night will be nearly equal.

The sun rose at 5:59 a.m. and will set at 6:06 p.m.

Tidal Information

High tides are expected at 1:09 p.m. and 1:13 a.m. tomorrow, while low tides will occur at 7:01 a.m. and 7:27 p.m.
