Police Superintendent, Jagai, Appears in Court with Handcuffs
A suspended police superintendent, Ashik Jagai, appeared in a Port Louis court today with his wrists in handcuffs, facing fresh accusations from the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC).
The high-ranking officer, who was previously the head of the Special Striking Team, attempted to conceal the restraints with a diary he held in his hands.
He was dressed in a blue suit, a maroon tie, and a cap, maintaining an impassive expression throughout his appearance.
New Charges and Previous Arrest
Jagai’s latest arrest last week stems from allegations that he violated the conditions of his conditional release.
The FCC claims he intimidated an accountant, attempting to coerce a statement in favour of his son, who is currently in custody. Jagai vehemently denies these allegations.
This marks Jagai’s second arrest by the FCC in under a month. His initial arrest and subsequent release on bail were related to the “Reward Money” case, a matter in which he denies any wrongdoing. The new charges accuse him of interference and threatening a witness.
