Varanasi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a bilateral meeting with his Mauritian counterpart, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, in Varanasi on Thursday, September 11. The meeting will take place at the Hotel Taj, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also scheduled to receive the Mauritian Prime Minister.

Ramgoolam arrived in Varanasi on Wednesday, September 10, for a three-day visit and was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. He received a guard of honour upon his arrival.

Security measures have been heightened for the high-profile visits. Officials, including Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar and Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna, have been inspecting routes and venues to ensure “foolproof security and traffic arrangements.”

A fleet rehearsal for the movement of both prime ministers has been conducted. Police and paramilitary forces from various districts have also been briefed on security protocols.

Following his meeting with Modi, Ramgoolam is scheduled to view the historic ghats of Kashi and witness the Ganga Aarti from a cruiseliner.

On Friday morning, September 12, he will visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple before departing for Ayodhya.

Varanasi has been decorated to welcome the foreign dignitary, with local residents and schoolchildren expected to wave the national flags of India and Mauritius.

Cultural events are planned at 11 locations along the route from the airport to the hotel to showcase the culture of Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP has also finalised preparations to welcome Prime Minister Modi, with party workers and public representatives set to shower rose petals at six locations between the Police Lines and the hotel.
