MRA Reminds 2 Categories of Taxpayers to File Returns by 15th October

The MRA is reminding all citizens that this is a civic and legal duty, and they are encouraging everyone to file their returns and pay any taxes owed promptly to avoid a last-minute rush. The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has set Wednesday, October 15, 2025, as the deadline for all taxpayers to file their annual income tax returns.

The MRA’s online platform at www.mra.mu is now open for submissions, and the authority has enhanced its digital services to ensure a smooth and secure process.

The MRA has also highlighted two key categories of tax returns: the standard declaration and the simplified declaration.

Who Needs to File?

The standard declaration applies to individuals with a net income exceeding Rs 390,000, a gross business income over Rs 2 million, or who have earned emoluments subject to the PAYE system or income subject to the Tax Deduction at Source (TDS).

The simplified declaration is for self-employed individuals who do not meet the criteria for the standard declaration.

The MRA has stressed that even those with small businesses are obligated to submit this lighter version of the form and pay any tax due.

New Digital Tools to Help

To make the process easier for taxpayers, the MRA has introduced several digital tools.

  • e-Appointment is a service that allows taxpayers to book a slot online for a personalized consultation via a WhatsApp video call.
  • MyRA is a 24/7 chatbot on the MRA’s website that can answer frequently asked questions and guide users through the filing process.

The MRA has stated that these tools are designed to make tax filing more accessible, allowing taxpayers to get assistance without needing to visit an office.

Avoid Last-Minute Rush

The MRA has advised taxpayers not to wait until the final days before the deadline. They have traditionally observed a surge in website traffic in the 48 hours leading up to the deadline.

Filing and paying online is now the standard practice, as it provides a faster and more secure way to complete the process.

For additional information, taxpayers can visit the official MRA website or contact the helpdesk at 207 6000 during business hours.
