A government MP and doctor has slammed a new health ministry plan to create a special team to monitor medical staff with unannounced visits, calling the move “ill-advised” and a potential blow to morale. Dr. Farhad Aumeer, a backbench MP from the majority party, voiced strong reservations about the initiative.

He warned it could sour dialogue and set the public against medical professionals, particularly junior doctors, who he said were doing a “fantastic job.”

While acknowledging that a small number of doctors had committed abuses, Dr. Aumeer argued that a dedicated ministry team for surprise inspections was not the solution.

He instead suggested the government should rely on existing hospital managers and duty officers, stressing that it was unfair to target the entire profession for the actions of a few.

Dr. Aumeer pointed to the recent budget, noting that funds had been allocated to strengthen hospital administration, and that managers were being recruited to address administrative issues.

He also raised concerns about the readiness of junior doctors, questioning whether they had adequate training and tools to do their jobs effectively.

Dr. Aumeer disclosed that he had shared his opinion on the matter with Health Minister Bachoo.
