The arrest is part of a wider probe by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) into Mohammad Muzaffar Ali Lallmamode, 31, who is known for organising events such as the ‘Shalma Festival which brings the magic of Tomorrow Land’. This major investigation into a concert organiser has been launched after police seized Rs 1.1 million in cash and foreign currency (£17,600), following his arrest in Port Louis.

The Arrest and Seizure

Lallmamode was apprehended with Rs 390,000 and 16,600 US dollars in his possession.

Officers from the Divisional Support Unit were alerted to a strong smell of cannabis coming from his Ford Mustang, leading to the discovery of the cash and currency, which totalled Rs 1.1 million.

During his transfer for a drug test, Lallmamode reportedly attempted to discard a sachet of cannabis.

Ongoing Investigations

The FCC is now investigating how Lallmamode, who was previously arrested seven years ago for importing synthetic drugs hidden in candles, obtained a permit to organise a concert in the west of the island.

In that prior incident, an individual hired to retrieve the drugs was intercepted by the Customs Anti Narcotics Section and exposed the operation.

Investigators also suspect Lallmamode has connections to the son of a high-ranking police officer, who is currently implicated in the ‘Reward Money’ case.

Court Appearance

The suspect appeared before the Port Louis District Court on 27 August, where he allegedly made threatening remarks towards an on-duty police officer. He is currently receiving medical care at the C-care Wellkin Clinic.
