2 Road Fatalities in 1 Day as Police Investigate 'Road Rage' Killing

Two young men have died in separate road incidents on Monday, 25th August, with one death linked to a ‘road rage’ dispute. The tragic events unfolded within hours of each other, claiming the lives of a 27-year-old and a 21-year-old. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene following a shocking altercation near a bridge in Beau-Champ, while the other was killed in a collision between a van and a motorcycle in St-Aubin.

‘Road rage’ death in Beau-Champ

On Monday afternoon, a dispute escalated into a fatal tragedy, leading to the death of Rohan Kumar Greedharry, 27.

Police from Bel-Air-Rivière-Sèche were alerted to a serious accident on the main road at Beau-Champ around 3:20 PM. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Greedharry lying on the road.

Early investigations indicate that the victim and a friend, who were in a van, got into an argument with the occupants of a Bedford truck after a road rage incident.

The victim had a heated exchange with the truck’s assistant-driver. As the assistant-driver held onto the young man by his collar, the 63-year-old truck driver, from Grand-Sable, started the vehicle abruptly.

The victim fell onto the road and was crushed by a rear wheel of the truck. The occupants of the truck then fled the scene.

The SAMU (Service d’Aide Médicale Urgente) were dispatched but could only confirm the young man’s death.

His body was transported to the Jeetoo hospital morgue, where an autopsy attributed the cause of death to shock from multiple injuries.

Following a tip-off, the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) of the East apprehended the truck driver at St-Michel, Grand-Gaube. He tested negative on an alcohol test and has since been taken into police custody. An investigation is underway to determine if the driver’s actions were intentional.

Fatal collision in St-Aubin

A second fatal accident occurred later that night, around 10:55 PM, in St-Aubin on the Savanne road.

A van and a motorcycle were involved in a collision that killed Sevin Boyjoonauth, 21, the motorcyclist.

A 20-year-old passenger on the motorcycle, also from La Flora, was injured and rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle. His condition is reported as stable.

A SAMU doctor pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene. His body was taken to the Souillac morgue for an autopsy.

The 57-year-old van driver underwent an alcohol test, which was negative. He has been held in a cell at the Rivière-des-Anguilles police station and provisionally charged with involuntary homicide at the Souillac court.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact circumstances of this accident.

These two tragic incidents underscore a profound truth: a moment of carelessness or anger on the road can have irreversible and devastating consequences, reminding us all that human life is precious and worth more than any dispute or rush.
