Police Hunt Trio After Violent Rs3Million Heist in Petit-Raffray
A couple were held at knifepoint in their home by three masked men who stole goods and cash worth an estimated Rs 3 million. The violent robbery took place on the night of Saturday, 24 August, in a quiet street in Petit-Raffray.
The burglars, armed with swords, broke into the family home at around 11pm. They quickly overpowered the mature couple, holding them captive and forcing them to watch as their home was ransacked.
The victims, who sustained minor injuries, declined hospital treatment, remaining in shock from the ordeal.
Among the items stolen were gold, diamond, and precious stone jewellery, a Valmet .308 calibre rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition, a DJ brand drone, and around 20 bottles of valuable alcohol, including whisky, vodka, and gin.
The thieves also took a DVR surveillance video recorder and cash amounting to Rs6,000.
In addition to the theft, the culprits damaged a grey Kia and a dark grey Volkswagen parked in the garage while attempting to disable their security systems.
The robbers were believed to have been an organised gang, and police suspect the home was a specific target.
Despite the home being equipped with a surveillance camera and alarm system, these were not activated at the time of the break-in.
The Goodlands Police, with assistance from the CID and SOCO specialist units, have launched an investigation.
The scene has been secured and forensic evidence collected in an attempt to identify the perpetrators.
The incident has raised fears among local residents, who believe there is a growing sense of insecurity in the northern region.
Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activity.
