A ‘True Gift from Heaven’: Family’s 18-Year Wait Ends with Found Baby
A baby girl, found abandoned in a rice sack in Stanley, Rose-Hill on August 5, has been placed with a new family after a rigorous selection process. The child, named Soléia, meaning “sunshine,” is now with her foster parents, a couple who had been waiting for 18 years to welcome a child into their home.
“She is a true gift from heaven,” the emotional father shared, adding that the 22-day-old infant is “the sunshine of the family.”
The couple’s journey to adoption was extensive, involving twelve matching exercises and thorough social, psychological, and financial background checks.
The Children’s Court has granted a one-year Placement Order, ensuring Soléia’s stability.
Following news of the abandonment, more than 50 people expressed interest in fostering to the Fostering Service, according to the Minister of Gender Equality, Arianne Navarre-Marie.
